Luong Van Can Fund organized a Mentorship Kick-off session for Mentee

On the Saturday afternoon of October 28, 2023, Luong Van Can Fund organized a Mentorship kick-off session for Mentees on Zoom’s online platform. The meeting is part of the mentorship program for the academic year 2023-2024.

To begin the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Trieu Trung – the representative of the Fund’s Executive Board – reviewed the achievements of the 2022-2023 school year program. In the previous academic year, 97% of Mentees agreed that the Mentoring relationship was beneficial, and 97% of Mentees learned many new things from their Mentors. The program also received positive feedback from Mentors regarding the changes in Mentee’s abilities, thoughts, and attitudes. The Mentor-Mentee relationship deepens through the program, based on mutual respect and learning.

Next, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Uyen, a Luong Van Can Fund BoM member, shared her personal experience as a Mentee. She believes a mentor is someone who will accompany, listen, and understand the mentees’ difficulties based on their own experiences. Emotional understanding and the career development journey are key elements that enable mentors to support mentees in building their self-confidence. Additionally, when knowing someone who could genuinely understand an ongoing situation, the Mentee will easily share current problems, reducing the risk of stress. Ms. Uyen also expressed her perspective on the role of a Mentor:

When you feel unsettled and unsure of what to do next, a Mentor is exactly the “anchor” to hold you, helping you refocus on your plan.

In the second part of the kick-off session, Mr. Trieu Trung presented important milestones in the mentor-mentee matching phase and popular mistakes that Fund’s students often make. Mr. Trung also addressed common questions from students about the program immediately after this section.

In the final part of the program, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao, the Director of the Fund, engaged with the students on how to work effectively with their mentors to achieve the best interaction performance and avoid wasting both the mentor and mentees’ time.

The kick-off session was a success, marking the beginning of a promising journey for the mentorship program in the academic year 2023-2024. The Luong Van Can Fund hopes students will attain valuable experiences and maintain meaningful activities while building strong connections with their “companion mentors.”
