UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Luong Van Can Fund Undergraduate Scholarship aims to support students with outstanding academic achievements from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their higher education at Universities/ Colleges in Vietnam. Besides financial aid which is up to 100% tuition fee and subsistence fee, the scholarship also aims at facilitating students with Training programs, Mentorship, English classes and Company trips to help them reach their full potential.

LUONG VAN CAN UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
Academic year 2021 – 2022

Established in September 2014, Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund aims to develop a new generation of highly skilled professionals beneficial for Vietnam’s social and economic growth. 

In alignment with its mission, Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund thereby announces the opening of applications for domestic scholarships (hereafter referred to as Luong Van Can Scholarships) for the 2021 – 2022 academic year. The scholarships aim to support students with outstanding academic achievements from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their higher education at Universities/ Colleges in Vietnam.

After a careful assessment process, the Selection Committee will award the full scholarship or partial scholarship packages which covers full or part of tuition fee (depending on the tuition fee of each university), tuition fees for foreign language classes and living cost (fixed amount per month). 

Scholarship awards will be re-assessed on a semesterly basis to ensure fairness and transparency. Recipients who fail to meet the eligibility criteria set by Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund during their programs of study (academic, disciplinary standing and personal development) will be terminated for continuing scholarships. During the period of scholarship grant, recipients are required to submit grade and semester reports to the Scholarship Board and Fund Management Council. 

The process of scholarship evaluation comprises of 02 rounds: the preliminary round (Round 1), English test and the interview round (Round 2). 

The candidates who pass the interview round will be awarded scholarships. The number of scholarships awarded annually is not fixed in each year. 

Candidates that fulfill the following criteria are eligible to apply for a Luong Van Can scholarship: 

Type 1: 

– Be a Vietnamese national (without dual citizenship) currently enrolling at one of the Universities in Vietnam of the academic year of 2021– 2022 (regardless of majors).
– Must have achieved a GPA of 8.0/10 or above
– Must have achieved a GPA of English of the latest semester of 8.0/10 or above
– Demonstrate proactive involvement in social/ community/ volunteer activities (either in Vietnam or overseas)
– Demonstrate particular dreams and detailed plan to achieve the dreams
– Being from a disadvantaged background (lower-income background, living with disabilities or in isolated areas…) is prioritized. 

Type 2: 

– Be a Vietnamese national (without dual citizenship) who is currently a grade-12 student at a high school in Vietnam and passes the 2021 National High School Examination
– Have achieved Fair standing or above and Good conduct in grade 12 (GPA 9.0 or above)
– Gained entrance to a college or university in Vietnam (regardless of majors)
– Demonstrate proactive involvement in social/ community/ volunteer activities (either in Vietnam or overseas)
– Demonstrate particular dreams and detailed plan to achieve the dreams
– Being from a disadvantaged background (lower-income background, living with disabilities or in isolated areas…) is prioritized 

A candidate is required to submit documents as stated in the Application Forms session below, then the candidate may supplement his or her college/university entrance decisions. 

*Note: Candidates with special backgrounds (lower-income background, living with disabilities or in isolated areas, from ethnic minorities,…), although may not meet the aforementioned academic requirements, are still encouraged to apply for further assessment. 

Candidates are required to submit all the requested forms. Otherwise, application of candidates will be deemed invalid and therefore will not be assessed. 

Type 1 (Students from Universities): 

  1. Online Application Form

– Fill in online application form on website: http://dang-ky-hoc-bong.lvcfund.org.vn/. 

– Please check your information carefully while signing up. Each Identity Card is only equivalent to one account. To activating the account, you have to check email form LVC Fund then click the link attached. After finishing the application form, candidates are expected to prepare and attach soft copies (scanned copies in PDF format) of the following documents (from number 2 to 8) to the application form 

  1. Complete Financial Proofing Form
  2. Copy of official university transcript (updated to the latest semester) certified by the School Board
  3. Personal Statement 

– No more than 02 typed A4 pages, Times New Roman font, font size 12, written in Vietnamese with tone markers. 

– In this letter, candidates need to demonstrate: 

Content 1: Why they are deserving of a scholarship. Accordingly, topics that need to be discussed include, but are not limited to, the followings: the candidate’s academic prowess; any college/university programs the candidate is currently pursuing and why; future career goals; participation and/or leadership roles held in extracurricular activities, community service, work experience (if any, such as internships or volunteer positions); the candidate’s sources of motivation at school and in life. Clear presentation of the candidate’s dreams and detailed plan to achieve the dreams plays an important role in the Personal Statement, and greatly contributes to the assessment of the candidate. 

Content 2: Express your thoughts on this topic “If you have VND 1 billion right now, ow will you use it?” 

  1. Teacher’s recommendation letter

– You can ask for recommendation letter from homeroom teacher, School Board, or an alternative teacher who knows you well. This letter needs to explain your academic prowess and abilities, according to the sample provided here. Both handwriting and typing are acceptable. 

– The teacher’s recommendation letter greatly contributes to the assessment of the candidate. The more details about the candidate the letter provides, the greater chance the candidate may acquire. 

  1. Letter certified by local government (commune, ward or township people’s committee…)

– This letter needs to elucidate the candidate’s disadvantaged circumstances, demonstrating the candidate’s need for financial aid for continued study. 

– The letter is expected to STATE address, telephone number, email (if any) of the local officer for further contact from LVCF when in need. 

  1. Awards, Certificates

– Copies of any certificates of academic achievements, extracurricular activities, work experience (no need to be certified). Please scan and save all the copies in 01 PDF file. 

  1. Copy (uncertified) of English (or other) language proficiency certification(if there is any)

Type 2 (Grade-12 students attending the 2021 National High School Examination):

* Note: Documents number 8 and 9 can be supplemented after the application deadline. 

Deadline for applications: 17:00 on 23/07/2021. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be assessed.

In alignment with the vision of Luong Van Can Scholarships, scholarships shall be awarded to candidates determined to be eligible and worthy based on academic ability, academic achievements, academic goals, and whose family backgrounds comply with the above requirements. Scholarship awards do not discriminate on the basis of region, race, religion, or gender. In particular, a successful candidate must:

– Clearly and logically present their personal academic and life goals

– Demonstrate their motivation and effort to achieve their goals as described

– Demonstrate leadership ability and desire to contribute to the community

– Verify his or her (family’s or personal) disadvantaged background and need for outside support for continued education

– Demonstrate a commitment to continuing efforts during the period of scholarship and thereafter

  • 18/5/2021: Scholarship applications open 
  • 23/07/2021: Scholarship applications close. Selection Committee begins assessment process 
  • 07/09/2021: 1st round decisions released 
  • 19-21/08/2021: Online Interview process
  • 24/08/2021: Scholarship winners announced
  • 02-03/10/2021: Orientation 

You need to be honest in listing other scholarships you are applying for when applying for Luong Van Can Scholarship. If found to be dishonest, the Fund will stop granting the scholarship and require the candidate to fully reimburse the scholarship package that they have received.

Due to limited social fund, Luong Van Can Fund gives priority to candidates who are not receiving any long-term funding to ensure that as many as difficult cases have the opportunity to be supported. Or the Fund may ask you to stop receiving another long-term scholarship once you have received Luong Van Can Scholarship.

Once you have received  Luong Van Can Scholarship, you can receive short-term study encouragement scholarships, or another one-time scholarship with the approval of the Fund.

Question 1

Ask: Can I apply for scholarships even though my GPA does not meet the requirements?

Answer: As stated, candidates who do not meet the study standards but have special difficulties can still apply for Luong Van Can Scholarships. These situations will be taken into consideration. However, please note that only very special cases will be given priority to.

Question 2

Ask: Are domestic scholarships only available for students who have permanent residence in Ho Chi Minh City?

Answer: Domestic scholarships are available to all Vietnamese students who meet the Fund’s requirements, regardless of region, sex, religion or ethnicity.

Question 3

Ask: Can I apply for scholarships eveCan I submit a Temporary Certificate of High School Graduation if I still do not receive the official one?

Answer: Candidates can submit a Temporary Graduation Certificate issued by high school, then hand in the Diploma. This should be clearly stated in your application.

Question 4

Ask: Can I take picture of my documents instead of scanning?

Answer: You can. However, please make sure that the photos are sharp

Ask: How many domestic scholarships are offered this year?

Answer: The number of scholarships depends on the quality of the applications.
