Luong Van Can Fund organized the series training session “Project management skills”, academic year 2021-2022

To equip LVC students with essential skills for operating their project under the scope of the Community Project program, Luong Van Can Fund co-operated with Mr Ta Thai Minh Phuc to organize a series of training sessions entitled “Project management skills”.

The training included two sessions that took place on 19/12 and 26/12/2021They were hosted by Mr Ta Thai Minh Phuc – Learning and Development trainer & Partner at Shopee Vietnam. The training content included:

  • Day 1: Overview of Project management and project planning
  • Day 2: Stages of project execution and Enabling Skills

What is “project”?

According to FranklinCovey Institute – a world-renowned organisation in helping individuals, teams and organizations achieve greatness and superior results that require lasting changes in human behaviour, often the most difficult challenge any organization faces – a project is an activity that is executed concentratedly in a particular period to create a unique product/ service/ result. The project might be sophisticated, bring in profits and last for several years, or it might be as simple as assignments at school. No matter how big it is, all projects require appropriate plans and disciplined management, regarding human resources, workloadand timely execution.

Mr Minh Phuc shared that:

A successful project is a project that meets its listed goal, makes optimal use of potential resources and creates confidence and a sense of responsibility

If a leader wants to maintain those merits, he orshe needs to follow 4 underlying rules:

  • Showing respect to others
  • Listening first
  • Clarifying expectations
  • Showing responsibility spirit

Stages of project execution

On the first day, Mr Minh Phuc introduced an effective project execution procedure that can be applied directly to the upcoming Community Project program. That procedure included starting the project, planning the project, executing the project, supervising and controlling the project, and accomplishing the project. On the second day, LVC students acquirednew knowledge through an attractive game, Textra, which required students to read documents and discuss project agenda, resource, risk management, and proposal. Moving to the next part, the students presented their ideas via Google Slide and Jam Board.

Enabling Skills

Besides the foundation of project execution methods, enabling skills also play an important role in guaranteeing the effectiveness and success of a project. Communication skills, Project Schedule management skills, teamwork skills andchange management skills, which Mr Minh Phuc introduced to LVC students, can be practised by tools like The Minto Pyramid Principle, meeting commitment or a model for change, ADKAR.

Does “leader” mean “Project manager”?

An effective team should centre on the leader and other members, who have equity of roles and closed connections. However, it does not mean that the leader is a sole project manager; others should contribute to the project goals. Each member should acquire personal enabling skills and commit their responsibility to the project goals.

Eventually, Mr Minh Phuc spent most of the time encouraging students to reflect on the knowledge attained over the 2 days. Moreover, Mr Phuc gave students a sample that required them to apply their knowledge immediately to solve the issues. It helped LVC students realize the practical and critical efficiency of project management skills in life and their upcoming projects.

Luong Van Can Fund would like to express appreciation to Mr Ta Thai Minh Phuc for his support in providing key information about Project management skills to LVC students. We hope that the session has helped LVC students understand Project management skills in depth to operate their project better.
