Luong Van Can Fund organized Mentorship Meet-up - Introducing “Community Project”

Wednesday, 23 January 2019

On the morning of January 19, 2019, Luong Van Can Fund held a friendly meet-up for its mentors and mentees. The meet-up aimed at introducing Community Projects - an activity of Mentorship, which are going to be launched in March 2019. JVN students also take part in these projects. Ms. Doan Thi Ngoc, the lecturer of Liberal Education, the Faculty of Social Science, Hoa Sen University shared with the project groups how to do charity works effectively and professionally.

To start the talk show, Ms. Ngoc presented the Social Work Code of Ethics to mentor-mentee groups. The codes are based on the six core values of the social work profession: Service, Social justice, Dignity and worth of the individual, Importance and centrality of human relationships, Integrity and Competence. She emphasized: “No matter where we are, these principles should never be applied mechanically but flexibly to clients since conducting social work is about working with humans”. The valuable experiences Ms. Ngoc enthusiastically delivered are the firm base for students to plan their community projects.

After the presentation of Ms. Ngoc, Ms. Pham Thuy Tien, a member of LVCF’s Management Council, introduced some community projects of LVC students. These projects had been in progress since 2017. There are some notable ones such as “Nối” (roughly translated as Connecting), a project of Medical students aiming to connecting patients in need to free treatment programs. Beside “Nối”, the goals of “Tâm sự với người lạ” (Talking with strangers) are to visit and listen to lonely elder people in nursing homes.

In short, "Community Project" is not only a great opportunity for students to learn, train their minds, apply the knowledge absorbed in training sessions to reality but also provides the beneficial and practical values as well as spreads out the spirit of living kindly to society.
